Spring Has Sprung!

Spring has finally arrived even though the weather is still acting like Jack Frost wants to stick around for a little bit longer. But we all know that soon the spring peepers, the blue jays and the crickets will start to make their glorious sounds, the smell of mud in the garden and water spraying from the rainbarrel will brighten our days! The Funky Mamas sure can’t wait for all of that!
Winter was indeed fun – the Mamas, Papas and Funky kids spent time outdoors tobogganing, snowshoeing, skiing and just breathing in that fresh winter air during a walk in the woods. Though, like a mama bear and her cubs all four of us are keen to wake up and start a fresh new season.
This past year has been a time of great change for us. As some of you know, our dear friend and fellow Mama Alicia decided she needed to spread her wings in a different direction. This has left the four of us with the great task of redefining our band. We have started a new recording to reflect our new yet familiar sound. Last weekend, we spent some time up in a beautiful place in Huntsville – also known as Shangri La – to jumpstart this CD – keep your ears and eyes out for it – we will be working on it through the spring, summer and fall and hope to have it ready for all your curious ears by Christmas.

Last Sunday there was a launch for Grammas to Ambuyas compilation CD “Dancing Kites” in Ottawa, Ontario to benefit the Stephen Lewis Foundation.

All proceeds from the sale of this CD will go to the foundation. We are thrilled and honoured to be a part of the recording – “Rollin’ Along” – our title track from our second CD was chosen to be included. We join a long list of other fantastic Canadian artists that contributed as well, like Raffi, Maggie G, Jack Grunsky, Judy and David, The Kerplunks, Splash n’ Boots and Valdy (plus others). If you would like to purchase this CD you can do so by following this link.
We are hoping to have a release of that CD locally sometime soon with some of the musicians who live in and around the Toronto and Guelph area. This should prove to be a really great event and we do hope to see some of you there. Keep posted on our website for details.
